For example, human-potential psychologists are fond of telling us that “we make our own reality.” In conforming to their doctrine, the self becomes a god. Each individual must bear the weight of being a god to himself and others. He must create his own world. The self is supremely autonomous and supremely capable. We can never relax. Our own self-actualization demands our constant vigilance. Everything depends on us. We must control it all!
